--------------

RHP Pedro Martinez has been dogged by rain this year. Martinez's first rehab start at Class A Clearwater was shortened by rain, and two of his four starts for the Phillies have been cut short by thunderstorms. But the forecast calls for clear skies Thursday night when he faces the Giants in the rubber match of a three-game series. He'll be opposed by San Francisco ace Tim Lincecum. "We've been trying to get him from 100 to about 105, 110 pitches," manager Charlie Manuel said of Martinez. "He was getting there, and the two rainouts set him back a little bit. But I look at Pedro and I think he can definitely be a six-inning guy. I definitely think that."

Martinez is 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA in four starts. His most recent start, last Friday against Atlanta, was shortened to 25 pitches because of two rain delays. His Aug. 18 start against Arizona, also at Citizens Bank Park, was limited by rain to 38 pitches.
